Books will be gone some day

Many people who love to read paperback books, will not agree with the following post.

I believe that some day, paperback books will be gone some day. Especially regarding the rapid rate that people these days, get themselves Ebook readers like the Kindle. Ebooks can also be read upon iPads, tablet PC’s and normal laptops/PC’s as well.

I think it’s great how books are now made digital because not only does it saves you the trip to a book store or library but we also save trees in this process.

I believe that someday, libraries will also die down. Looking at this elderly woman I saw at the dentist the other day, I believe that it is mostly elder people like this woman who still goes to a library to rent a book.

My father-in-law have achieved in teaching his 79 year old mother-in-law, how to use an Ereader after many, many struggles. But I believe that we can also teach elderly people to use technology like Ereaders, thus saving trees & money.

What do you think?

  1. Have to be honest I do enjoy reading an actual book rather than reading something like that online. But in saying that I do do a lot of reading online when I’m interested in a particular subject.

  2. I love the Kindle and iBook app on iPad but I still love books. I especially enjoy sharing books that I have read and you cant do that with electronic books. I will still buy what I call *keeper books*. Those treasures that will live on my bookshelf for a lifetime.

I believe that both paper books and electronic books can live symbiotically! :-)

  3. I’m with Mel and Lea…love real books!

  4. I love to read on my ipad but it will never replace books. I love the smell of books, and one can share books. But I do think it will reduce the amount of books printed though

  5. I love real books too, but nothing beats my Kindle. the quality of the screen for reading is just awesome. I do not like reading on any other devices – like my iPad for instance, as it really is just not the same.

Only problem – buying books is just way to easy! too easy to spend money, but it is great that you can buy a book any time you want regardless of where you are!

  6. I love real books, but I think you may be right. Eventually books will be gone – which will be sad. I hope not in my lifetime or that of my children.

  7. I think it is special to be able to read a book at a time and place that suits you! You are right though that the younger generation are discovering many other possibilities!

  8. I love real books AND I love my Kindle. I follow Michael Hyatt’s blog (michaelhyatt.com) and he writes posts about this sometimes.

I think there will always be a market for “real” books despite the e-phenomena.

Oh, and I still go to libraries too. I used to get all my fiction from the library til I got the Kindle – I read way too fast to spend R750 a month on books…. :)
